Kids might only wonder where the bathroom will be, but you, as a parent, have a lot more questions as you prepare a child for STEM Learning.
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.
Though the United States has historically been a leader in these fields, fewer students have been focusing on these topics recently. According to the U.S. Department of Education, only 16 percent of high school students are interested in a STEM career and have proven a proficiency in mathematics. Currently, nearly 28 percent of high school freshmen declare an interest in a STEM-related field, a department website says, but 57 percent of these students will lose interest by the time they graduate from high school.
STEM teachers in underserved communities lack adequate tools and other resources needed to help kids and young adults. Young adults from underserved areas are underrepresented in the STEM Workforce. Kids from underserved areas find STEM subjects difficult to learn for the following reasons:
Overly Procedural thinking.
Lack of ability to translate mathematical meaning to real-world meaning.
Lack of ability to make approximations or estimations.
Lack of multi-step problem solving skills.
Lack of practice.
Lack of confidence.
STEMKasa provides learning products that are more engaging and follow the Gaming format making it easier to impart STEM knowledge. The platform uses Interactive media to make STEM learning more engaging and less boring for students in underserved areas. Interactive media is a method of communication in which the program's outputs depend on the user's inputs, and the user's inputs, in turn, affect the program's outputs. Simply put, it refers to the different ways in which people process and share information, or how they communicate with one another. Interactive media allows people to connect with others—whether that's people or organizations—making them active participants in the media they consume.
STEM-based education teaches children more than science and mathematics concepts. The focus on hands-on learning with real-world applications helps develop a variety of skill sets, including creativity and 21st-century skills. IDM STEM-based gaming can improve student learning. It is anticipated that increasing underserved and minority student achievement in STEM fields through IDM STEM resources will encourage these students to pursue health-related careers that will increase their economic and social opportunities.
